From the wing to the piano
He once played on the wing for Excelsior Rotterdam. Now he plays the piano.
At seven, Reginald Somai was scouted by Excelsior Rotterdam. He played on the wing with the number 7 on his back. A series of injuries ended that dream when he was 21.
Life went quiet. By chance he sat down at a piano and, without lessons or a teacher, began turning what he felt into sound. The melodies helped him heal, and slowly they found listeners far beyond Rotterdam.
His debut EP is called 7, after the shirt he used to wear: six compositions that move from shadow towards light.
‘I make piano music in the space between light and dark, a musical clair‑obscur.’
